Why have you deserted me, why run to Her?
Our life may be humdrum, but what’s the great lure?
Cherise was so loving, never far did she stray,
Now at the Granny flat she tries to stay!
I lost all my children; one, two, three, four…
For the sweets or the freedom or perhaps something more.
I lost my sweet loving kitten to this vortex of need!
What pleasures does She offer that he pays me no heed?
With the door always shut against her marauding hound;
Marley likes to scent mark to show what he’s found!
I at least had 3 cats and one little dog;
To comfort me through loneliness’ deepening fog.
But we found a device to keep rabbits from wandering far;
A toddler door in each doorway, the lower exit to bar.
Air conditioning problems made us consider Her door;
The system works best if we close it no more.
So the toddler gate was installed to ease the fan’s strain.
I lost Smokie this time; my loss is Her gain!
So Charlie; my beloved, now what have I done?
I gave you most of my chicken and half of my bun!
Will you too desert me to curry Her favour?
When up until now you’ve been my last savior!
The rabbits are independent, the girl cats have lives,
Without enough pet love nobody thrives!
She has all of my children, 3 dogs and 2 cats,
If they weren’t in a cage, She would have all my rats!
My husband adores Her, She can do nothing wrong.
So why does the paragon keep my family so long?
P.S. And my mother did this even though I gathered her old recipes and made a cookbook just for her.
