Writing Group Serial 3

This is part 3. I would direct you to part 2 but the problem would remain, if you don’t read part 1 you will be even more confused than regular readings of my posts. I do not guarentee reading part 1 and part 2 will help, but at least you will have tried And I’m only linking you to part 1 because:

a. It’s easier for me.

b. Reading 2, 1 then 3 may seem all edgy and avant garde but it doesn’t improve the accessability of my writing, and I have witnesses.

If and only if you have read and I was going to say understood but it is nonsensical so I won’t be difficult, read will do, read part 1 and part 2 you may continue to the story.

Beautiful woman in a green dress chasing butterflies on a mountain

Georgie had forgotten to fear Nich, he was so charming, so appealing, so harmless, he was just… likable. He had no idea where he was or what he was doing, but somehow this seemed to suit him. The illusion that the ladybug, Lisa, was actually talking to him was catching. It, or she, flew frantically around Nich’s face whenever he seemed to hear her, it was very compelling. Georgie wasn’t sure anymore who was crazy.

The palace had been visible on the skyline for the last hour, but it would still be an hour before the wagon reached the town surrounding the keep. More time to chat with the fascinating Nich.

“Why aren’t the Northern Dukes coming?” asked Princess Tabitha as Princess Natasha dried her freshly washed hair.

“You know men!”

“Not really,” Princess Tabitha grabbed her chair as she felt herself trying to float away from the conversation.

“Well, they’ve decided to go to war against each other first, then they’ve agreed the winner will come and be my champion.”

“They are all fighting each other?” Princess Tabitha was very surprised, the Northern Union had been strong for generations.

“Well Rupert and Claus are mad at each other, Stephan, Ike and Randolf all seem to think I’ll marry the winner, Ethan and Xander are talking thruple, and Rosalinde is trying to depose Winston.”

“But they were so close.”

“She’s trying to depose him, not kill him.” Princess Natasha seemed exasperated, “I don’t know why she’s doing it, we couldn’t marry. A clandestine relationship with my husband’s sister would have been the best of both worlds.”

“I didn’t hear that,” suddenly all noise stopped for Tabitha.

Beautiful girl in a green dress following butterflies on a mountain

Princess Natasha was clearly still talking, and based on the gestures it was probably far too graphic for the ears of a delicate princess. But this scared Princess Tabitha. No sooner had that thought sprung in her head when the sound returned. Princess Natasha was still comparing the Northern Dukes in flattering but inappropriate ways.

“It’ll be the Southern Union all over again,” warned Tabitha.

“Tosh,” retorted Natasha. “The North doesn’t have a grumpy old Puritan like Maxwell.”

“You’re right, without a Maxwell to keep them together it will be a disaster.”

“Tosh! He’s just mad because he thinks I seduced his son.”

“You did.”

“Yes, but that’s not my fault.”

Tabitha looked quizzical so Natasha continued.

“I was trying to seduce his grandson.”

“You did.”

“But I was trying to seduce only the grandson.”

“Why is your aim so random?”

Natasha started to explain, but Princess Tabitha quickly realised she was not ready to know that much about … well love… well whatever. So, she excused herself and went to the balcony to try and catch a glimpse of Georgie. She prayed the animals would bring some much-needed peace to the palace.

At the entrance to the palace keep Georgie was waved in by nervous palace guards. Georgie and her animals were well known for soothing the princesses and the guards were eager for the Empress to be distracted before an alternative ammunition source could be found. There were stories of unrest from the North that also worried the guards.

The guard captain wondered what the punishment might be if he tried to stop the Princess, Natasha the Tease, from riding forth in search of allies again. Queen Catherine the Not Quite That Great would have welcomed any slight to her youngest sister, and previously, Princess Alexandria the Odd had been very easy going. But these were strange times and above all the Captain wanted to maintain a distance from the new empress. Like so many others the captain’s most heartfelt prayer was for Princess Tabitha the Quiet to find her voice and take control. Perhaps then a proper search for the King and Queen could be made.

The guards smiled at the charming stranger sitting next to Georgie, wondering when the wedding might be. The man had such natural appeal that they hoped Georgie may have found someone worthy of her.

Nich’s jolly wave was at odds with the solemnity of the mood of the town. Townsfolk thought he would do well in the palace.

Part 4 coming.

  1. Royal people never seem to have enough to do to keep out of trouble.

  2. Fantasy worlds need more paparazzi, and faster vehicles so polititians can bother each other more. But I think the problem really is that King Gavin made the kingdom too peaceful and prosperous.
