Get Off the Rainbow, Autism Is Not All Positive

I believe in Neurodiversity, I believe there are a lot of positives to being Autistic, but I don’t believe in the gag order some of the Neurodiversity lobby are trying to guilt us into.  Living with a person who is neck deep in all the darker aspects of Autism as  a disorder is hard.

And I am sick of it!

Yesterday my husband and I engaged in a lively discussion; you know the ones that start with me yelling and end with me crying and take me out of useful work for a minimum 12 hours.  It started with my asking advice about my computer mouse.  Here is a precis substituting autistic for common symptoms that we know we have.

L: ‘Didn’t you say there was a button that could fix this?’

G: Autistic response with a dash of male.

L: ‘I can’t take you ‘being autistic”

L: (20 minute Screamed monologue)  You do this autistic thing and this autistic thing all the time and I can’t stand it.  I have to deal with Tabby being autistic and Alex being autistic and Tasha being autistic and ADD.   I am close to a breakdown because my autism is out of control.  And I get blamed by people for the autistic things you guys all do. (Crying uncontrollably)

G: ‘Well at least you got this out and now we can deal with it’

L:’We have this argument quite regularly, we had it a month ago with the kids.  You will have an autistic reaction and I will have an autistic reaction with a guilt edge.’

G: ‘I have to go to drive some of our children to a place to try to reduce their autism, unlikely to work, but at least it reduces your guilt.’

L: Autistic psychosomatic reaction.

Etcetera ad infinitum.

  1. autistic comment on this blog! <3

    1. Autistic response.

  2. also there is probably a button on your laptop to turn your mouse on and off. i dont know if thats the button youre referring to, but it probably has a picture of your trackpad and needs combining with your fn key. there is no standard here, only nigh-standard conventions.

  3. and a picture of a trackpad is about a generic as it gets; it might as well be a keyboard key with a picture of a keyboard key on it.

    1. It’s a Logitech Mouse that can move between 3 computers allowing you to copy on one computer and paste directly onto another. Like many other electronics it gets little sensitive when I’m stressed. I was sure he said in the past that there was a button to limit it to one computer on the mouse, I found the shortcut on the computer once he stopped trying to solve a ridiculously easy problem I didn’t have and was busy explaining the extremely long way of doing it.

      1. you said youve already found the shortcut (id like to know what it is) but i didnt even know what this thing was called– ive never heard of the logitech flow before. fascinating.

but it does exist apparently, and if you need to know a shortcut for it, just ask. for now, if you know the shortcut– i am very curious!

      2. Computer/picturey short cut. Words don’t work, must show while on computer. Speakey/writey stuff too hard.

  4. Omg this is so well written. I also aspire to spread awareness of neurological diseases. Do also check out my first post and read my blog at http://autismandeats.wordpress.com Here’s to a great friendship. Appreciate it ❤️

    1. I am so sorry. I’ve been off the computer for a week and when I went to read your blog it had gone. I hope you’re okay!

      1. Hi! I transferred my blog to https://autismyouths.wordpress.com ahahaha

      2. I’m following your new site even though it appears there is nothing on it yet. Get writing!

  5. That certainly sounds like it would suck. Amazing that you guys are functional, contributing members of society. Kudos

    1. I give the credit to our pets and all the fine work they put in calming us down, cheering us up and insisting we wake up to feed them.

      1. Yes. The cats make sure I have a purpose in life too

  6. Almost all of the things you articulate happens to be supprisingly legitimate and it makes me wonder the reason why I hadn’t looked at this in this light previously. Your piece really did switch the light on for me personally as far as this subject goes. Nevertheless there is actually one particular position I am not too cozy with and whilst I attempt to reconcile that with the actual central theme of your point, permit me observe just what all the rest of your subscribers have to point out.Very well done.
