In between melt downs; mine & the kids, this weekend I tried my hand at face painting.
Years ago I volunteered to help a face painter at a Primary School for Australia Day; she didn’t turn up. I enjoyed the experience so much that I have wanted to repeat it ever since, but nobody uses amateur volunteers anymore they pay professionals. And face paint is so expensive that I couldn’t justify it. But as Halloween is getting bigger every year here I thought it might be worth a look. And sure enough cheap pots of face paint were at the cheap stores.
Natasha got a Day of the Dead costume to go Trick or Treating with her Grandma & cousins, and having more confidence in my artistic ability than anyone else in the family except my mother, she wanted me to paint her face instead of getting a mask.
Then she got the idea ( & the permission) to ask her boyfriend along. But she’s not sure he’ll be allowed a costume. So she told me sorry about the wasted money but I can’t wear a costume because it will make him feel left out. She does have a really kind heart. I thought of a solution; if he turned up in normal clothes I could paint his face to be some creature in normal clothes, she went for it & so far he seems to be.
So it was practice time, plus a chance to get a picture we could show the boyfriend. Cat had Anime club and Tabby had a party so Alex was it for face model.
Now Natasha has decided the lighter pink on the eye was the way to go, with the extra deco. I plan to lengthen the line from the mouth & move the curlique on her cheek. Face paint around the eye was really irritating so the pink we are using is lipstick and black eyeliner.
Alex is wearing red face paint covered in fake blood (the red was too pink) her eyes are done in red and black lipstick. The boyfriend can choose from several base colours.
