I Think I Can Write a Script.

Actually I don’t.

I joined a Scriptwriting writing group because the guy running it wasn’t comfortable with the admin, and he was too important to lose. Once a month and some tips to hand onto my husband (scriptwriting was an early aspiration) and my drama obsessed offspring.

But no it was a full on scriptwriting course by a master. I had missed the first class and had to pick a short story to adapt. I didn’t want to risk copyright to I picked ‘Welcome to Mothers’ Day’. He liked the idea and told me not to change.

He then told me it was to be adapted as a max. 5 character drama, not a 12 person comedy memoir. And he told me not to change.

I have written and am on my 3rd edit of a 40 minute (the prescribed time 30 -45), One Act wiith an interval, 5 character, dramatic adaptation. My hero is not me anymore and the rest are amalgams.

All as I have been ordered.

You know I really think it is only autistic people who follow orders. One class member has 23 characters another 12, scripts range from 10 to 15 minutes without the interval we were told we must have, and the two I’ve seen were comedies and not adaptations either.  One guy said I might get in trouble for putting in the interval that we were told to have.

Why don’t Neurotypical people listen to each other?

Why do I?
