KSP Writer’s Circle didn’t have a writing exercise this morning but people were talking about a 49 word challenge. At the coffee break I let Mum make my cup of tea; it gives the old dear something useful to do. She paid me back by listening to things I randomly said last week and ruined my tea by reducing my sugar “to see if I’d notice”, I did but she claimed I was planning to reduce my sugar intake. Senility is a patchy problem, just when you need them to forget.
A note: I know real senility is not a joke I too have had relatives suffer from this, but you have to laugh or you’ll cry.
Note 2: My mother probably doesn’t have it, and she may not have been eager to make my tea (although I didn’t have to ask) although she did ruin my tea.
Anyway, my point is I heard people say something was hard so I had to do it. Below is my 49 word story:
“Dread!”
Pippa’s voice grated, breaking his concentration. Darkness and the moist swamp air was soothing, Monroe could feel that he was oh so close.
“It’s in the air, can’t you feel it!”
Monroe ignored her.
“My shoes! I’m going home!”
“Success!”
“Monroe?”
Pippa’s screams rent the silence then, abruptly, stopped.
